Doing the Corporations’ Jobs

One more “Use the digital world to get your customers to do YOUR job” so poor corporatists can save money

I just got a notice on my phone with a link so that I can conduct an inspection for my insurance company for the property insurance I just paid for on a rental.

It requires me to take maybe 15 photographs of the property. It might be a different story if it was for the home I am living in, but since it’s a rental property what this entails is monumental. I have to contact the renter, interrupt his private life, invade his living space all to protect my insurance company from insuring a bad place. What part of that discernment is my job?

Am I getting paid for my considerable time and effort? If I WAS getting hired I could turn down the job. I would. I don’t have time. What if the property is 2 hours away? Will I be compensated for gas?

Who cooked this up? MBAs at corporate? Hey, it saves THEM money. They don’t have to pay a guy to drive around in the 3D world and look for themselves. Or was it IT guys who live in the digital world and never go outside? Or never own rentals?

Here’s how the real world works. I pay you. Your entire company depends on my kind. I have hired you. Why is it that I am your employer and I have to do your job? Without pay? I wasn’t asked if I wanted to do that job. I was “TOLD”. That’s what “You have been sent a link” means now.
